How is LSS funded?

LSS is funded by a variety of sources, and receives monies from Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations, foundations, United Way, corporations, private contracts and grants, client fees, state and local governments and countless individual donors.

Are contributions to LSS tax-deductible?

As a 501(c)(3) organization, gifts to LSS qualify as charitable contributions and are tax-deductible. Whether or not a particular gift to LSS is fully tax-deductible may depend on your own financial situation. Please contact a tax advisor if you have any questions about your unique situation.

Is it safe to donate online with my credit card?

Yes, it is extremely safe. LSS partners with Blackbaud Merchant Processing System, which has validated compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA DSS). Should you chose to donate online, LSS will not share your information with any third-party companies or organizations.

How do I print my tax receipt?

After you make an online donation to LSS, you will receive a confirmation email with a receipt you can use for tax purposes.

Are LSS's fundraising efforts in compliance with established fundraising guidelines?

Yes. LSS is one of only three organizations in Wisconsin, and the only organization in Upper Michigan, to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation, an independent, non-profit organization committed to promoting standards, championing quality and advocating for accreditation by organizations who work with vulnerable populations, including children, senior citizens and those in need. LSS is an agency of the United Way and a member of the Lutheran Services in America, and is also accredited by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.

If I donate to LSS, where does the money go?

Donors can specify the general area or specific program to which they would like their contribution directed, or they can make an unrestricted gift, which is used to support areas of greatest need.

What types of clients does LSS serve? Do you only serve Lutherans?

LSS provides essential social services for children and families, adults, older adults and persons with disabilities, regardless of their reglious affiliation or background.

Is LSS affiliated with the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)?

LSS is a separate, non-profit organization that conducts its ministry on behalf of 500,000 Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Lutherans in nearly 800 congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are governed by a board of directors that includes representatives from business, health care, clergy and other sectors of the community in the two-state area.
